The American Buffalo, or Bison, has become a patriotic symbol for all Americans of strength, beauty, and unity that once roamed the Great Plains of North America by the tens of millions. Buffalo are the largest land mammal in North America and the official state symbol of Kansas, Wyoming, and Oklahoma.

New Hampshire adopted the “Live Free or Die” motto, said to derive from its native-born war hero, General John Stark, circa 1809. This theme has roots going back to the French Revolution and Patrick Henry, who addressed the Second Virginia Convention in 1775 with the words; “Give me liberty or give me death!”
