Thomas Jefferson 1743 – 1826

Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence, and Founding Father of our nation who served as the first Secretary of State, the Second Vice President, and the third President of the United States. A diplomat, statesman, lawyer, architect,  and philosopher, Jefferson was a strong defender of religious freedom who abolished the slave trade; established the Library of Congress, and founded the University of Virginia and the US Military Academy. In 1803 Jefferson doubled the size of the nation.
