Theodore Roosevelt 1919 – 1958

Theodore Roosevelt fought in the Spanish-American War and served as the 26^th President of the United States. His “Square Deal” platform promoted the conservation of natural resources, corporate trust-busting, and consumer protection. Theodore Roosevelt built the Panama Canal, created 5 National Parks, and the US Forestry Service, destroyed the Beef Trust, cleaned up food and drug labeling, strengthened the US Navy, and ended the Russo-Japanese war. The “Teddy Bear” was named after Roosevelt when he refused to kill a baby bear. His motto was ‘Speak softly and carry a Big Stick.”
